The letter and the card play different roles
The Home Office visitor guide gives a letter on school or university headed paper confirming enrolment and leave of absence as an example of student-status evidence. It does not name a student card in that example. A 学生证 can support the letter, especially when current-year registration is visible, but it should not be described as a substitute the Home Office promises to accept.
What the translation covers
I translate the front and back of the card, registration and renewal stamps, issue dates, department and student number. For a 在读证明 I include the institution’s letterhead, current status, course, dates, authorised signature and seal. Anything illegible is marked rather than guessed.
The UK language requirement
The same Home Office guide says a non-English or non-Welsh document must have a full translation that the Home Office can independently verify. It specifies the translator’s accuracy confirmation, date, name, signature and contact details. My certification page supplies these details; the decision maker still judges whether the underlying evidence is enough.
Send the right pages

Is a student ID card enough for a visitor visa?
The Home Office guide specifically mentions an enrolment and leave letter. The card can be supporting evidence; the decision maker assesses the whole application.
Do you translate every renewal stamp?
Yes, if it is legible. Send all stamped pages or panels so the dates and current status are not lost.
What if my school gives an English letter?
You may not need me to translate that letter. Send it with the Chinese card so I can quote only the material that needs translation.
