Navigating the UK GMC Certified Translation Service
Understanding GMC Certified Translation Requirements
According to the General Medical Council (GMC):
It’s recommeded to choose ITI, CIOL and ATC as the certified translation providers.
How to Quickly Find the Right Translator
Before You Begin, Please Note:
1. Choose the Correct Language Pair: If your source file is in Chinese and you need to translate it into English, select the “Chinese to English” language pair. This ensures the translation is certified from Chinese to English, not the other way around.
2. For Hard Copies: If you need a hard copy mailed to your home, choose a translator close to your location to save on shipping costs. If you only need an e-copy, any translator can do the job.
3. VAT Considerations: If you choose ATC, you may need to pay VAT because they are part of a translation company alliance. ITI and CIOL translators can charge privately, potentially avoiding VAT.
4. Association Stamps: ATC and ITI have association-specific stamps, but CIOL does not.
Case Studies and Success Stories
Recently, I assisted a Hong Kong physician in applying for a UK medical license. He needed to translate some letters of recommendation as part of the application materials. The original text was in Traditional Chinese and required translation into English. Following the guidance on the official website, I found a translator through the ITI association. After making the payment via PayPal, the translation work began. Within two days, I delivered the translated documents to him. He submitted them to the GMC, and his application was successfully approved.
