How to Quickly Find the Right Translator
Before You Begin, Please Note:
1. Choose the Correct Language Pair: If your source file is in Chinese and you need to translate it into English, select the “Chinese to English” language pair. This ensures the translation is certified from Chinese to English, not the other way around.
2. For Hard Copies: If you need a hard copy mailed to your home, choose a translator close to your location to save on shipping costs. If you only need an e-copy, any translator can do the job.
3. VAT Considerations: If you choose ATC, you may need to pay VAT because they are part of a translation company alliance. ITI and CIOL translators can charge privately, potentially avoiding VAT.
4. Association Stamps: ATC and ITI have association-specific stamps, but CIOL does not.

Which documents the GDC needs translated
If you qualified as a dentist outside the UK and are registering with the General Dental Council (GDC), any document not in English must be submitted with a certified translation. For applicants with Chinese qualifications that usually means your dental degree certificate (学位证书) and graduation certificate (毕业证书), your academic transcript, and — depending on your route — a certificate of good standing from the body that regulated you. Identity documents and any change-of-name paperwork may need translating too.
What makes the translation acceptable
The GDC, like other UK regulators, expects a complete, accurate translation carrying the translator’s signed certification: a statement that it is a true and accurate rendering of the original, the date, and the translator’s name, contact details and professional credentials. As an ITI-certified translator I certify every page, describe each seal and stamp rather than leaving them as images, and romanise your name exactly as it appears on your passport so the GDC can tie your documents together. Nothing needs notarising for a standard GDC application — a certified translation is sufficient.
The ORE route and timing
Most overseas-qualified dentists join the register through the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE), and your translated qualifications form part of the eligibility check before you can book. Because those checks sit on the critical path, translate your Chinese documents early. A certified translation of a typical degree-and-transcript set is usually ready within 1 to 2 working days and delivered as a signed PDF.
